Inter Milan has accepted a transfer offer for Dutch playmaker Wesley Sneijderfrom Turkish side Galatasaray, Sky Sports is reporting late Wednesday.
The offer is said to be in the €10 million range.
"Galatasaray's offer satisfies us,” Inter president Massimo Moratti told Sky Italia. “Now it depends on the player."
But, Moratti added, "We would be happy if he decided to stay on our terms," alluding to Inter’s request to renegotiate Sneijder’s contract in the midst of the club's financial troubles. Inter has reportedly asked the 28-year-old midfielder to accept a €2 million annual pay cut.
Despite Inter accepting the bid, it's not a done deal just yet. Galatasaray must first negotiate a contract with Sneijder before any transaction goes through. That could take several days to complete.
According to a statement on the Turkish club's official website:
Sneijder, who has 90 caps for the Netherlands, has played in just five Serie A matches this season for the Nerazzurri, and he hasn’t seen the pitch since Sept. 26.
Inter manager Andrea Stramaccioni insists that sitting Sneijder “is purely a tactical decision.”
Whether or not you believe that excuse for keeping a world-class player on the bench, it's clear that the relationship between Sneijderand his club has deteriorated. And whether it's to Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur or another big club outside of Europe, there is widespread speculation thatSneijder will be leaving the San Siro either now or this summer.
Several questions still remain: Does Sneijder want to leave now? And to where would he like to move?
It seems plausible that he could leave Inter in January, but the issue of "where" is far less decided.
Turkish newspaper Milliyet reports that Galatasaray is prepared to offer Sneijder €6 million a season, plus bonuses, to join the club, although the Italian media believe the Netherlands international would prefer to join a Premier League club and is hopeful interest from England will materialise.
United and Spurs have been among Sneijder's more publicized suitors, and Paris St Germain manager Carlo Ancelotti has repeatedly had to deny rumours of the French side's interest.
